As you have long suspected, you're a muggle born witch/wizard!
You received your letter from Headmistress McGonagall at Hogwarts School for Witchcraft and Wizardry.
The magic is real.
What adventures await you at Hogwarts? Be sure to write home to your muggle family to share the magic with them...
"It is our choices, Harry,
that show what we truly are,
far more than our abilities."
- Albus Dumbledore, Harry Potter and the Chamber of Secrets
A full floss list for the whole project can be found HERE
If you would like to use some beautiful fabric for this project then I have some good news! I have been working with Misty of Mystic Hand Dyed Cross Stitch Fabrics to create some fabric choices specifically designed for this project! She is selling her glorious work on her website HERE.
I will be doing behind the scenes posts in the months in between the Letters from Hogwarts chapters. If you want a picture of your version of the SYOA to be featured then please email photos to scunningham85 -at- gmail.com
There is also a facebook group to discuss all thing SAL/SYOA, which you can join HERE
I do these patterns as a kind of Fan Fiction/Fan Art homage to something I love. The patterns are completely free. All the rights to Harry Potter etc belong to their respective owners.
People have asked me how they could show some appreciation for the time/effort involved, for which I have set up a ko-fi account. This is entirely voluntary, and much appreciated.

You are my HERO! Thank you for all the work that this project will take.
ReplyDeleteSTEWART!!!THIS IS AMAZING!!!!!! I can’t wait to ripnout my old crap SAL and get this going instead!
ReplyDeleteThank you for such a fun SAL xx
ReplyDeleteYES!!!! Thank you SOOOO much :)
ReplyDeleteThis is amazing and I so look forward to being a part of it! :)
ReplyDeleteCan't wait to get started
ReplyDeleteJust LOVE IT !!! can't wait for fabric to come and get started ordered 32ct. Mystic Hand Dyed Cross Stitch Fabrics color is a bit worrisome as I have NO idea what will be coming.
ReplyDeleteThank you! It’s so kind to offer this and you are making many HP fans happy!!
ReplyDeleteThis is unbelievable!
ReplyDeleteWhat is the name of the fabric I should be purchasing?
ReplyDeleteyou can any sort of cross stitch fabric, as long as it's the right size. Use whatever you're comfortable with :)
DeleteThis is such a creative and fantastic idea for cross stitch!! I like Harry Potter, but didn't think I'd ever stitch anything as I have other fandoms higher in my priority, but this is just way too cool not to participate in! Thank you so much!
ReplyDeleteWhat fabric count is reccomended? In terms of the backstitching looking good/not cramped etc.
I'll be stitching mine on 16ct
DeleteLove this, first ever stitch along and way and couldn't be more excited.
ReplyDeleteAssuming it's stitched using the standard of 2 strands unless told otherwise ?
ReplyDeleteThat's right yes. Of course, some stitchers prefer to use three strands for coverage, but that is up to them :)
DeleteI'm not sure where the wand and such go on the frame?
ReplyDeleteThe wand patterns have the blue and yellow swirls behind them. Use these to replace the blue and yellow swirls that are at the top of the pattern, underneath the Hogwarts and Hogwarts Express.
DeleteWhen does chapter 1 become available?
ReplyDeleteChapter One is on Jan 1st, then each chapter will be every two months
DeleteI am trying to follow the colour but it appears that some of the pattern colour is not there or labeled differently
ReplyDeleteIt should all be in there. The way the file is arranged, the floss list is after the pattern element. So, the symbol/colour list for the wand options is on the twelfth page, and pages 39,40 & 41 have the colours listed for the entirety of the frame. I hope that this helps
DeleteHi I'm confused. So to start you gotta start with which team your in? Not the outside frame?
ReplyDeleteStart with choosing your wand and stitch the outside frame and layout with your wand. There are a few stitched pics shown here.
ReplyDeleteThe photos of what some stitchers have done are found under the behind the scenes introduction page. Scroll down the page to see them.
ReplyDeleteIS this only from year 1?
ReplyDeleteChapter 2 is Quidditch tryouts, which traditionally you're not allowed in until your second year (Harry was an exception)
